HANNAH SHAW, viola

Violist Hannah Shaw enjoys performing music of a wide variety of genres.  She was invited to appear on a recording of Benjamin Dale's music for viola, recently released on the Dutton Epoch label.  As a member of the New Juilliard Ensemble and the Oberlin Contemporary Music Ensemble, she has premiered numerous works and performed in Merkin Hall and as part of Juilliard's Focus! Festival and MoMA's Summergarden series.  Hannah has served as principal violist of both the Oberlin and Juilliard Orchestra under such renowned conductors as Sir Andre Previn and James Levine, and was selected to participate in both orchestras' tours of China.   Hannah is now studying baroque viola, having been chosen to work with William Christie and Les Arts Florissants during their 2009 residency at Juilliard.

A native of South Carolina, Hannah now resides in New York City.  She completed her undergraduate studies at the Oberlin Conservatory of  Music as a student of Roger Chase, and received her Master of Music degree from The Juilliard School, where she studied with Toby Appel and Samuel Rhodes.
